#3 Top Spokesperson Who Have Come and Gone: The Budweiser Frogs

A Budweiser Frog

I can only imagine how the creative brainstorm went for this ad campaign.

“How can we increase brand awareness?”

“Well,” the copywriter says with a squeak in his voice, “we could just say the brand name over and over again.”

And they did. And it works. Quite well too.

The Budweiser Frogs debut in the Mecca of commercials with Superbowl XXIX. Three frogs croaked three different syllables in Bud-weis-er. Eventually the frogs were able to get the croaking to say Bud-weis-er. This commercial lead many people to croak “Bud” in public in hopes someone would respond back with “weis” and “er”. This also had friends of two hoping to make a third friend to finish the trio.

NBC Sports deemed this commercial as one of the top 5 Superbowl commercials.

Eventually the frogs received some assistance from Louie and Frankie the lizard because you can only watch so many commercials of three frogs croaking Bud-weis-er without it getting old. Louie was very jealous of the frogs, which eventually led to his attempt to murder the frogs.

This amazing campaign of just saying the brand’s name has landed the Budweiser Frogs #3 on the top spokesperson who has come and gone.

I had never thought of how bizarre it was that the commercial just repeated the brand name over and over again. Bizarre, but effective. Keep ‘em coming. I’m very interested to see who #1 is.
